Black Valley

No one should miss to visit the Black Valley down in deepest County Kerry. Here I found Ireland to be rural as can be. The potato famine left this valley without any residents. Just a few people came back to live a simple life between the hightest mountains of Ireland in inviolated nature. Black Valley just got electricity 20 years ago. To find the wide stretching valley and it's lovely streams and lakes have a look at the map. Nowadays Black Valley even has a tiny little school and a lovely designed website.

This Valley is a peaceful place
Furry rabbits run a race
Mute swans and cygnet flow
In the secret water we all know

I ride my pony through the Gap
And hear the hooves go clippity clap
I wouldn't change it for a queen
I love those pretty sights serene

Leaping through the heather wild
Where the sly red fox prowls
In the starlit midnight air
To grab a timid lamb in Croc
While Purple Mountain and Reeks just stare

I'd long to walk the Valley woods
And see the birds fly high
I'd love to hear the sparrow sing
And watch as time goes by.

And the brown trout frisk about
As I fish beside the sally
In this place we call the Valley

I for once had wonderful hours at the little stream, enjoyed to look at the high peaks and mountains from below, felt so small and humbled and blessed, just stood there amazed by the beauty of nature, climbed rocks to get closer pictures of the 'waterfall', met free horses, did all without haste. Thanks to the patient driver! A trip through the Gap of Dunloe followed.
