Gap of Dunloe - Start This is one of the most scenic places in Ireland near to Killarney. Let me take you to a trip through high mountains and deep valleys. We start the walk from the top of the Gap. |
Gap of Dunloe - Lakes Take your time to look at the lakes from above, imagine strong winds, that clear your mind while your eyes rest on this peaceful picture. |

Gap of Dunloe - Sun With a bit of luck you find a sunny, warm spot down at the first lake. Rest here for a while, listen to the sound of the lake, look up to the majestic mountains and you might know all of a sudden - God is here. |
Gap of Dunloe - Soil Now we are down in the valley, looking back to where we came from. At this point future seems to be unimportant, you breath the clear air and you are just - you. |

Gap of Dunloe - God bless The lower lake invites you to go down to the water, to see the reflections of mountains and sky in the clear water. The Native Indians are used to bless themselves with the wild waters of lakes and rivers to purify their spirits and reconnect with the Great Spirit. May be the Celts did the same in former times. If you ever come to this special place, take some water and try. |
Gap of Dunloe - Desire Now our walk is almost done. You pass some more wee tiny lakes. Every now and then you might look back wishing you could stay forever with God and the mountains. |

Gap of Dunloe - Silence Usually the Gap is crowded with tourists, but if you go in the early morning or late afternoon, you find the road through the Gap as empty as the typical jaunting cars. |
Gap of Dunloe - Teatime At the end of the day or the end of a long walk there's nothing better than a cup of tea in Kate's Cottage. Hope you enjoyed the trip. I for once need a tea now, badly. |
