St. Berrihert's Well - Hidden

At the feet of the Galtee Mountains in County Tipperary 170 meters east of the holy St. Berrihert's Kyle there lies a hidden well. It's 1.5 meters deep and 20 meters across.

St. Berrihert's Well - Adventure

It's an adventure to get to the well. There´s a barbed wire fence to cross - careful, careful ... and then you will find yourself stuck in the bog, in the midst of some cows ... could be a bull even, so make sure to figure out the gender, before you walk on ... then there's a stream to cross and you will get wet feet. Actually it wasn't even possible to jump over, it was like a wildwater-adventure to walk through.

Under a group of trees and bushes with another fence around and a gate lies the holy place of sacred water, nature's temple. As you can see, the Holy Spirit (or St. Berrihert) is dancing above the water.

People leave pieces of cloth and ribbon in the trees and bushes as a reminder that others have prayed here too.

A pilgrim's path encircles the pond. It is said, pilgrims should walk the path three times, slowly, while whispering their prayer.

St. Berrihert's Well - 18.February

Actually there´s still a pilgrimage each year on
18. February, organized by a lady who lives nearby. A mass is held in her house afterwards. Her son knows the area like his own home, a very openminded fellow of 13 years.

St. Berrihert's Well - Healing

This boy can tell many stories about the healing power of the water and how his father cures the farm-animals with success. It is said the water cures burns and scalds, the boy said it´s good for the eyes. There are cups hanging in the trees. To taste this water is a very special act of trust in God. I drank two times, one time the result was horrible, the next time I felt really refreshed. But both times it was an inner touch of the well's power.

St. Berrihert's Well - Meditation

The water is coming up from the ground with big bubbles. Just to sit there and watch the spots of white sand, which are moving and whirling around, is a wonderful meditation for the seeker.

Concentric circles of water reach out to the place where the visitor stands, touched by the wonders of this world. It's not a breathtaking place like the
Gap of Dunloe or the Cliffs of Moher, but in it´s humble silence a place that can help to find the way back to who you are ment to be.
